Emma Curtis was the daughter of William Curtis (2nd baronet of Culland's Grove, Southampton, Middlesex, UK) and Mary Ann Lear. She was the wife of William Winthrop, the US consul in Malta with whom William Henry Seward dined on September 8, 1859.
Emma was previously married to George-Savage Curtis, Esq. in 1826 and the pair had six children (Selina Emma, Susan, Ellen, Amelia Charlotte, Charlotte, Francis George Savage) before they officially divorced in 1846. On September 7, 1848, Emma married William Winthrop at St. Paul's Church in Malta. They had no children.
