Daughter of William Thomas Carroll, Sr., clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court, and Sally Sprigg Carroll. Wife of Gen. Charles Griffin; upon his death she married Maximilian Ernst Maria, Count Esterhazy, Secretary to the Imperial and Royal Austro-Hungarian Legation, in 1870. She is referenced by Fanny Seward in her 1862-1863 diary in attendance at a party held by Brazilian Minister Lisboa.
