Robert E. Lee Jr. was the youngest son of Gen. Robert E. Lee and Mary Randolph Custis Lee of Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia. During the American Civil War, he fought for the Confederacy. Afterward, he maintained an estate, "Romancoke", that he inherited from his maternal grandfather in King William County, Virginia. Lee Jr. married Charlotte Taylor Haxall in 1871; she died one year later. He married, second, Juliet Carter, with whom he had two daughters. In 1904, Lee Jr. published a book entitled Recollections and Letters of General Robert E. Lee. Lee Jr. died in 1914.
