Bargaintown Sep. 24th. 1837.
Dear Sir,
Your letter of the 21st from Philada
was recd last evening. I am very sory you could
not make us a visit, particularly as Cornelia
looked for you, with more than her usual anxiety.
Dear soul, she has passed through one more hard
trial, and I am sory to say she has not sustained
it as well as in other times. For some months past
she has been greatly depressed- looking forward
to the worst that could happen to her. She was
confined on the 15th and got on pretty well till
the 22d, when in consequence of sitting up too long,
an unusual symptom appeared which alarmed
her greatly, it being the very thing which she
most feared. It was relieved, however, before she had
lost much strength and now she is quite comfor-
able and more cheerful than at any time since
her confinement. I can now see nothing in her way,
except those gloomy fears which I hope will not return.
She worries you say nothing about her parents of
whom she has not heard since they left Erie.
Giver her warmest love and mine, to Frances
I can hardly write nowadays.
Our last is Mary
your mother
Your faithful friend & sister
