Editorial Note

Letter written for Willie, unknown script
Auburn May 10th 1846
My dear Brother,
Clarence
Birth: 1828-10-07 Death: 1897-07-24
is well, Grandpa
Birth: 1772-04-11 Death: 1851-11-13
has had the gout but is a
little better. I expect that Father
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
will get my a little poney. Mother
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21

has going to wean Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
to morrow, but she is a little sick, and I guess
she can’t wean her. She don’t like Custard pie much, she has got tired of it
One Sunday she had some Custard Pie, and some apple pie, and She
put her finger on the apple pie, She didn’t want the Custard.
Gussy should you think she would know the difference between
Grandpa’s plain tumbler and the other tumbler. She saw one of
Grandpa’s tumblers on the kitchen table “Gandpa” “Gandpa”
She made Mother take it up in Grandpa’s room.
I guess I shall have an auction Friday I drew
pictures of an elephant, duck, goose, horse, cow, dog,
and an owl, of a lamb. I guess Clarence is going to
college Wednesday. This is the last of my letters, as I didn’t
think you would have time to read mine and mother’s
I did not write a very long one.
Your affectionate Brother,
William Henry Seward, Jr.
