Auburn January 17. 1850.
My Dear Uncle,
Your letter of the 12th Instant has been
received. It is a subject of satisfaction for me that my intention
to be admitted in March should meet with your approval. After
that time I will with pleasure replace Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
and give him
the same advantages and opportunities that have been so
generously extended to myself. I should appear more selfish
than I should wish to did I express even a desire to re-
main here to the exclusion of Fred. It will be no act of
mine that deprives him of the advantages I have enjoyed.
You will therefore please consider me as willing & desirous
to come down and take his place sometime during the earlier
part of March. I am much indebted to you for your
kindness in obtaining the Intelligencer for me but I regret
that I was so inconsiderate as to call your attention to so
trivial a matter.
I will hereafter advise you when I have

occasion for money. Will you be so kind as to inform me
when you wish me to appear in Washington.
Please remember me kindly to all the family
