Monday June 13th
My dear Henry,
The vases came this
morning — the handle
of one was broken but
I think can be mended
easily — They are beautiful
I received your letter
written at Hastings
yesterday morning
I am glad you are
out of the city
these hot days—H.
Cheseboro
last week then came
Henry Miller
Page

Romulus and stayed
two more — he came
to pay the interest on
the Mortgage—
I am as well as when
you left home but
do not seem to recover
strength — The garden
is sweet with [ seringa’s ]
Alternate Text: syringa
and brilliant with
lilies and peony
I sat in the shade an
hour this morning
listening to the singing
of the birds and directing
Dennis
I was grieved the other
day to learn from
one of the neighbors
Page

that Caroline
been baptized in our
Church without [ saing ]
Alternate Text: saying
one word to me on
the subject—It is my
misfortune to fail to
win the confidence of
our niece—for her
own sake I wish she
would not so outrage
propriety—You do
not say what is to be
done with your letters
some of them seem to
[ requre ]
Alternate Text: require
answers—
Charles Sumner
high admiration of your
speech at Niagara—
Frances Worden
over again this week
& her husband—

Fred
has gone to Connecticut
sick—Weed
Saturday so Fred could
not come home —
I am sorry you cannot
be home next week
as Jones
to begin his work — I
will hope Fred may
come Saturday —
Please remember me
affectionately to all the
Goshen Cousins —your own
Frances —
