Auburn April 29th
Dear Henry
We are all feeling very sad this
morning – poor Watch
 Death: 1856-04-29
died last night at 6 o’clock –
– no doubt he was poisoned – as he was perfectly well
and playful until within two hours of his death.
I was spending the day at the house, & had seen
him only a short time previous to Catherine
Unknown
finding
him apparently dying_– We made use of active
& powerful remedies but the hand that administered
the fatal potion, understood too well, how to make it
effectual – Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
has this morning, buried him
under a tree in the upper yard – & few human
graves have had as many tears shed over them
as has poor faithful Watch’s – I write to you instead
of Mother
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
, hoping you may open the letter before
she sees it, so that you may tell her at a time
you think most proper –
Most affectionately
Your Sister –
