My dear Mrs Seward,
I am cheered here by your
note of 12th Aug., as I had
been cheered by one from your
husband
I seem to have assurance of resto-
ration. I am able now to
take much exercise, even on
horse-back, & I have enjoyed the
forest in my rides. I had inten-
ded to leave here to-day; but

Dr Wistar
Phili , has sent me the most
earnest injunction not to leave
the mountains at present, under
peril of a relapse for months.
I shall obey for a day or two
longer. But I must set
my face toward my duties. There
are things to be done at Wash-
ington before going home, & I fear
I must first go there.
It is with pain that I have
seen this session close without

down exposing the barbarism of
the Sen Power.
