Washington.
9th January. 1866.
My dear Will,
Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
passed the
night much more comfort-
ably than the previous
one. She was able to lie
down all night and
slept quietly a considerable
portion of the time. This
morning she sits reading
the papers — her cough
still troubling her much —
but I think she is doing
very well — & the doctor

,
who has just been here

seems satisfied with her con-
dition.
I have nothing new to
write since yesterday, not
having been out. The
intensely cold weather has
moderated somewhat — it
is still very clear and
bright.
I have been so very
glad to hear that you
were better than before I
left. Pray do be careful of
yourself for all our sakes.
Love to Jenny
