Auburn. Thursday
16th August. 1866
My dearest Father,
We have had a very
cold but sunny day. I drove
this morning far up the
lake shore – accompanied
by Mrs Perry
Birth: 1819-10-04 Death: 1898-02-12
.
I have a letter today
from Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
– dated Tuesday,
14th – She says “Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
has
recovered from the nervous-
ness caused by the bleeding,
and has improved very
much the last three days.
For the first time in a
month I am satisfied with

the appearance of the front
wound – it shows a higher degree
of vitality, & a better disposition
to heal. – A good
sized piece of bone made its
appearance in the back wound
a few days ago.”
I have written to decline Mr
Barreda’s
Birth: 1827 Death: 1883
invitation.
Mrs Martin
Birth: 1818-12-25 Death: 1899-07-09
was here today
& invited me to spend a
few days at Willowbrook –
I declined that invitation
too – as not at present
strong enough to undertake
visiting.
Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
is down this evening.
Just now she has gone to

call on Probably Eliza Christine Horner
Birth: 1807 Death: 1876-10-31
, or Charity A Horner
Birth: 1813 Death: 1873-04-29
Mrs Horner

Editorial Note

It is unclear who is being referred to here, as Eliza Christine Horner never marries. However,Mrs. Charity A Horner lives in New York City. It is possible Charity was visiting or that Fanny made an error.

spent last evening
here. I coughed considerably
last night and this morning –
and had a slight chill
on my return from driving –
but I think it was because
I went too far. I feel pretty
well this evening.
