Auburn Sept 21
My dear Father
I had intended
to have written a long letter by this
mail but have neglected it until
the last moment & now it is too late, the
rest of the family however have
done
better. If I can get away I expect
to go to town and look over your lands
there within a week or two & also try
to do something with the piece in Ill.
Every thing is dull here, and no especial
news except that Everts
Mill on the "Big Dam") has burned up, and
this morning about 6 oclock Stalkers
fine Planing Mill on Dill st was entirely
destroyed by the explosion of the boiler which
blew that & adjoining buildings to atoms killing
one man
