William Augustus Sackett

A Representative from New York. He was born in Cayuga County and attended private schools, including Aurora Academy. He moved to Seneca Falls in 1831 to study law and was admitted to the bar in 1834, where he began his first practice. He was elected as a Whig for the 31st and 32nd Congresses (1849-1853), after which he moved back to Seneca Falls to continue practicing law. In 1857 he moved to Saratoga Springs. He married three times during his life. He was "a Republican lawyer appointed by Lincoln to the office of Registrar in Bankruptcy (which lent him the title of judge)."
