Zillah Townsend Robinson was the daughter of Coleman and Malinda (Ogden) Townsend of Putnam County, New York. She married successful Buffalo businessman, Alanson Robinson, with whom she had two children, Mary and Coleman. She resided later in life with her daughter Mary in New York City. Frances "Fanny" Seward references riding in her carriage in her 1858-1859 diary while visiting Buffalo.
