Editorial Note

Letter written for Willie, unknown script
Auburn April 27 1846
My dear Brother,
I bought some bull heads
Unknown
the other day, and I put
them in a tub of water, and they came to life again, and lived
two or three days and then they died and then I threw
them away. I have got a hen
Unknown
without a tail and she
used to lay two eggs a day. But she does not lay two eggs now.
Aunt Clary
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
left a hen with a tail – now she has begun to
lay in the barn. She used to lay in the manger with the
horses
Unknown
, and she used to eat oats with them, and she
does now I guess. Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
and Clarence
Birth: 1828-10-07 Death: 1897-07-24
stopped to a
farm house with one of our horses it was one of father's

spare, the big one. As Fred was leading him out of the
barn door he got scared and ran three miles and broke
the wheel of the waggon all to pieces and the shaft also.
Aunt Clara is well and so is Mother
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
and the baby
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
.
Cousin Clarence wants you to give his best respects to
William Coleman
Unknown
if you see him. Grandpa
Birth: 1772-04-11 Death: 1851-11-13
has got the
gout – but at present he is very nearly well. He walked
out the other day to the barbers shop and gave me a cent and
I spent it for a coca-nut cake and eat it up. Fred's well so
is Clarence. I have got my hobbyhorse in my play room
Your affectionate Brother
Willie
