Key West
Jan 20th 1859
Dear Clara
After leaving home
I remained some three weeks in
Baltimore went from there to Charlest-
on thence to Key West arriving there
on the 6ththe same day as my
vessel. The vessel was out in some
rough weather and damaged some
what which being repaired I went
up the reef to work where I have
remained since.
The weather has been very mild
and pleasant more so than usual
this time of year indeed it was
hardly cool enough to drive the
yellow fever off there having been
some cases later than usual this
year though I believe they are
all gone now.
I received a letter from Mother
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
last
mail she says they

are now all
comfortably fixed in their new
house though they were all sick

with colds for the first few days after
they got there. They have not got
long to stay this year less than three
months. Give my love to Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
