My dear Father
I came here yester-
day afternoon with Ellie Marvine

Sarah How

came last Tuesday. I
was to have come with her but
last Monday we received the war
news, which was at first so bad
that I did not wish to leave home.
I was so glad when the more cheer-
ful accounts begun to arrive, and
your letter and Fred’s
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
which
followed were very welcome. I
was to come here next Tuesday
but hearing yesterday morning by
a letter from Sarah that Ellie
was to leave in the afternoon I hurried
that I might have her company.
I went to church this morning – I
think Rochester is very pleasant.
It is Mrs Ayrault
Birth: 1810-04-07 Death: 1899-08-07
with whom we
