My dearest Henry
Fanny
last night – I need not
say she was very welcome –
Aunt Clara
been so well for a few
days past – If she is
able to go to Rochester
Fanny will go with her
next week – I doubt
her having strength for
the journey – The weather
has been dark and rainy
for four days – Our
horses are still in
pasture –

We received no letters
about Will
Fanny came home –
He had previously decided
not to go, the Committee
and officers thinking it
not necessary he should
go as a private –
Will would himself much
preferred to have gone
but he was so strongly
opposed that perhaps
for the present it is better
as it is –
I hope there is some bright
prospect about the
future which I fail to
see.

recruiting is going
on well – better than
for the last Regiment –
Spencer Benedict
last evening and wished
me to say that his
Father's
earlier reply to your
offer – The letter also
was missent & did not
reach him in the usual
time – He goes to Washington
next week –
Love to all the children
in which Fanny joins
May God protect you
all –
