This was included in a letter from Augustus Henry Seward to William Henry
Seward on March 23, 1837.Thursday morning –
My dearest Henry – I received a letter
from you Tuesday – letters are now five days on the road
Clara
Alternate Text: measles she was taken last
Friday – for some days we thought it a violent cold
did not call a Dr
She preferred Smith
much to choose – her throat is sore considerable
fever and extreme pain in the back and bones
The Dr thinks her symptoms favorable – The great
danger is from inflammation of the lungs which
does not yet manifest itself – it is a severe
ordeal for a person at her time of life – I
hope Pa
Reason:
more exposed than she was – She called about
2 weeks ago at Miss Gardners
measles – just in that stage to be communicated
but we apprehended no danger as Clara had been
exposed before – Walter Cary
his way home to spend the vacation which will
commence in about a week – I have a letter from
Harriet Weed
all winter – Walter says he had not time when last
in Albany to see any of the Weeds – he
dined at
Horace Hills
at the American last evening – I will write again
this week – your own Frances –
