My dear William Henry
Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
returning by Albany gives me an opportunity
of addressing a line to you – I was taken unwell the
next day after you left us and have been a great suf-
ferer since, am again able to be about the room
The unsettled and I fear perplexed
situation of your Chautauqua business has given me
much uneasiness since you left, this very probably
grows out of my imperfect knowledge or information
of the Concerns – you will know that our friend Mr
D
Unknown
— is the last man I ever should confide in – The
delays and difficulties yourself & brother
Birth: 1793-08-23 Death: 1841-02-24
has been
subjected to is enough to create distrust and alarm
I therefore shall take it as a favour if you will
at your own convenience make me a statement
of the prospects present standing inquires liabilities
and difficulties of the Land office company

You will naturally ask why trouble myself
on this subject I answer frankly my children

have somethin worth a careful
investment and distribution when time things as
to me shall be no more — To you who is as
will acquainted with the abilities and qualifications
of every branch of the family as I am myself
I may be silent — A person of force & desermination
well qualified clear of incumbrance with him
sufficsient to do Justsice to all interested in this
distribution is a desirable object to me —
You are also well appris that my sole dependence
has been on yourself to attend to this agency
But in the event of embarrassments takeing bloom
on the winding up of your Executive office
Land office or any other concerns it was ought
it was ought grosses deem your and your families
interest in what is now clear of the shadow of a
claim – and render you a very unsuitable
person to superintend the interest of other branches
of the family and [ especiall ]

A final Close of this business could be
accomplished – An arange of my affairs
was made before the suggestions you
made when here ever crossed my mind
You have now my whole views and
in order to set my mind at rest and do what
I can view for the best interest of your self and
family you will therefore take the trouble
which I am sorry to tax you with in [ your ]
