Washington March 12th
My dear Clara,
I wrote a letter to Lazette
and have waited until this time to hear whether
she was in Auburn or Canandaigua— No letter
comes to give me the information— Nothing
heard from Augustus
surprised that he has not written— it is now
more than five weeks since we received his
last letter which was dated the 8th of January
two months ago— I still hope he may be
on the way home and yet it could not
take him all this time— I think I shall
be at home as early as the middle of April–

in getting any one to take his place here—
I wish if you hear of any girl that will
answer my purpose you would engage her
for me to come the 1s of May— Abbey
not come home with me— I want a girl
willing to do any kind of housework (not to sew)
what her work will be I cannot determine
until I come home—For reasons which need
not to be mentioned at this time I do not

want any of Ann’s
quite well again she is very lonely without
Willie
seems to enjoy her visit— Mrs Weed
here also I have not seen her yet— I was
out when she called. Henry
the California question yesterday— you will
soon see his speech in the paper— I think
it is more agreeable to the Whigs from our
State than that of Mr Webster
I shall not send my letter to Lazette until
I hear where she is— I hear nothing
from Clarence
he is admitted— I write in haste that
this letter may go to day— I am very
glad you are with Pa
