were quite well
and have returned in better health.
On my return I heard that Fred

is to accom-
pany him as a far as California
where they are to join Samuel,
The satisfaction of this appoint-
ment is dampened much by the
mortification that I have it by
rumours from others, the ungrateful
not to say unfeeling speculations of
people by the way as to the dispo-
sition of matters here in consequence
of this breaking up, is most trying
to my feelings,
But I will try to bear it in patience
and should it appear like complaining
to you please do me the Kindness to
pardon writing about it,
t , The documents which you had
the Kindness to send me is received
and three are there to whom I directed
have thanked me for theirs,
On examination I find that I have

mourning is to be carried with many
families by the war and the death
of Col Baker

many promising and valuable lives
are to be sacrificed, There is a great
responsibility resting somewhere, which
Infinite justice will bring to light and
reward,
