Auburn February 20th
My dear Augustus
I was glad to hear
from you last week – you seem so
much further away at Boston than
when you were in Washington – We
have had a very cold winter
here – since I came home – and
a great deal of snow – But there
was cold weather too in Washington –
and when I left there the snow was
quite deep – I have a letter to day
from Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
– written on Sunday –
she says her finger is still very much
swollen and at times very painful –
but she is able to preside at the dinners
& receptions – and last week attended
a dinner at the Presidents
Birth: 1808-12-29 Death: 1875-07-31
Father

thinks there has been so much time
lost that he is hurrying the dinners

and insists upon keeping up the re-
ceptions through Lent – They have
taken the furniture out of the guests
chamber – & stored it away in the
4th story – their receptions are so
large the three rooms do not accom-
modate them. Father dines out three
or four times a week & attends most
of the evening receptions – When Anna
wrote he had gone to dine with Mr
Sumner
Birth: 1811-01-06 Death: 1874-03-11
– On Monday Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
& Anna
were to go to N. York – to be gone un-
til to day – I hope she will see
Harriet Weed
Birth: 1819-02-06 Death: 1893-11-01
– the last time I heard
from Harriet she was not able to
walk without a crutch and but
a little with that- there was a re-
port that she & her Father
Birth: 1797-11-15 Death: 1882-11-22
were going
abroad when the Sanfords
x Birth: 1841-06-27  Death: 1902-06-01 Certainty: Probable Birth: 1823-06-15  Death: 1891-05-21 Certainty: Probable
returned
– but as they sail this week Saturday
& I hear nothing of it I think they are
not going – Anna had a letter from

Maria Alden
Birth: 1823-07-05 Death: 1896-01-26
after you were in
New York – She said Harriet regretted
very much that she did not see
you When you called – & was sorry
she did not know you were in the
house until you left – as she would
have had you come to her room–
The wedding came off last night
– or rather the ceremony took place
at 4 and the reception at 8 – All
the town was invited and all the
milliners were engaged day and
night preparing dresses. Sheridan
