have gone to the Capitol to
hear Fathers
hope he will be able to speak
to day - We have been driving
an hour since they went - it
is a bright but cold day for
this climate - Fanny
commenced her dancing lessons
with Lord Napiers & two
or three others
for the present at Lord Napiers
twice a week - The teacher
is Gaszynski
taught a Dr Bailey

Mr Lochou
finds him less cross this
Winter - She has also commenced
French with a Prof. Masse
actual Frenchman - she finds
him a great improvement
upon the German Beschke
We are now looking for a
music teacher & then shall
have about as much as we can
do - I give lessons in History
those days which are not
occupied with other lessons -
Fanny has been unusually well
this Winter - At Fathers
request I wrote for Sarah
Seward
Henry
a visit when Caroline
Mr Schoolcraft
house in Greenbush which
they are to occupy some
time next month -

for a short visit - She had a
fine time with Frank
writes that all is well at home
She drives up there almost daily -
The dogs I think do mostly
congregate at Aunt Clara's

house - though he boards with
Willis

called at Mrs Watsons
time ago - saw Jenny
well - The Republican
party seem much troubled by
Mr Hales
& the Tribune & Post following
his lead - I think your father
was entirely right in voting for
the Army Bill, I also think
that a portion of the Republicans
are very foolish as well as

very mean - His speech will
be very likely to draw down
a fire from the Southern Democracy
It is utterly absurd for any man
to attempt to please the world gen-
erally - he will do more wisely
to follow the convictions of his
own conscience, & is fortunate when
he has sufficient independence to do
so without apprehension about the
consequences - I have a letter
from Augustus
Feb. it was only 20 days on the
way - He says he may come home
next month - I pray that he
may not then be ordered to Utah -
If you see Fred
his letters & intend writing to him
tomorrow - Fanny sends love
