Monday afternoon
My dear Sister,
As usual I was prevented writing yesterday
I went to Church in the morning and in the afternoon
attempted to attend the funeral of poor Mortimer
Rathbone
Birth: 1824-12-29 Death: 1843-02-24
– you have heard of his melancholy death
his remains were accompanied by the prof and students
of Geneva College – I was informed the funeral sermon
was to be preached by one of the prof–'s this was a
mistake as Mr Croswell
Birth: 1807-11-07 Death: 1851-11-09
preached himself – I said
I attempted to attend the funeral – the Church was
so full that I could get no seat, so was obliged
to come home again – Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
succeeded better and
remained – The walk to the Church and home again
without stopping gave me the palpitation of the heart
so that I could not sit up the remainder of the
day – I occupied my time reading the Revelations
Publisher: Allan Bell & Co. Place of Publication:London Date: 1836

of St John which I found about as unsatisfactory
as I have always done hitherto – I obtained no
new light on the subject of the millennium which

my chief object — Do you know that we have Millerites
among us – Mr Weed's
Birth: 1797-11-15 Death: 1882-11-22
family
x Birth: 1827-10-10  Death: 1889-02-10  Birth: 1820-12-10  Death: 1851-06-18  Birth: 1823-07-05  Death: 1896-01-26  Birth: 1819-02-06  Death: 1893-11-01  Birth: 1797  Death: 1858-07-03
and Mr Hotchkiss'

I have been told were believers. Nothing however is
strange, as Clary says, if Joe Smith
Birth: 1805-12-23 Death: 1844-06-27
could get
adherents – It seems to have been the means of sending
many weak women to the Lunatic Asylum –
Mrs Smith
Unknown
and Caroline
Birth: 1824 Death: 1881-01-22Certainty: Possible
were here Friday – they
seemed very anxious to know whether the "reports"
relative to Frances
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
were true, as they had heard she
was soon to be married to Mr Blatchford
Birth: 1820-03-09 Death: 1893-07-07
– I do
not think they have even heard any such thing – I would
not gratify them by any positive contradiction but merely
observed that such reports were very absurd – Mrs
Smith is either getting old or she has never
been the woman of superior intellect I once thought
her – She reads nothing she says, for the want of time.
Caroline is intelligent – Saturday I went
out to make some visits – I went first to Mrs Millers
Birth: 1780-09-18 Death: 1850-03-09Certainty: Possible

when she signified her intentions to accompany me
We called at Mrs Porters
Birth: 1800-04-12 Death: 1886-03-29Certainty: Possible
– not at home – Swains

where Jannat
Birth: 1823-02-06 Death: 1902-07-20
informed us that there was no society in Auburn

for her sister Catherine

and the walks about the village
were so unpleasant that she could not go out sufficiently
for her health – all of which wh was very civil &
interesting – The only tolerable thing about Mrs. Swain
is the absence of pretention – 'Report' says that William
Hills
Birth: 1821-08-21 Death: 1875-07-12
and Janet Swain are about to be married – Debby

said yesterday that Charles Richardson
Birth: 1813-10-25 Death: 1890-05-08
was to be married
next week to a sister
Birth: 1823 Death: 1849-12-09
of Mrs. Williams
Birth: 1814-02-03 Death: 1883-05-14
, wife of the
rail road agent
Birth: 1806 Death: 1871-01-29
William Wood
Birth: 1800 Death: 1863-02-23
and Burnham
Birth: 1780-07-15 Death: 1867-05-03

were married last week – I believe I wrote you
that Burnham was to marry Urana Smith
Birth: 1788-07-04 Death: 1865-10-26
–very
sensible that – We also called at Mrs. Fosgates
 Death: 1848-03-10
and
Mrs Burts
Birth: 1776-07-25 Death: 1859-12-02
. Old Mrs. Fosgate was much disturbed by
a letter from Birdsall
Birth: 1791-05-14 Death: 1872-02-08
saying Serene
Birth: 1805 Death: 1884-01-19
had a swollen leg
which supervened 20 days after her confinement which
took place early in Jan. she has another boy
Birth: 1844 Death: 1894-05-17
– this
we had heard previously – poor Serene has many afflictions
I hope this will not prove as serious as it sometimes does–
I received a letter from Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
yesterday – he is very
anxious about his appointment having seen something of
the resolution which passed the Senate in the Tribune
Weed wrote that an amendment had passed which would
probably enable him (Augustus) to get the appointment.
Clarence
Birth: 1828-10-07 Death: 1897-07-24
does not return – I wrote to him last week.

Fred

is still constantly occupied with his studies – continues
to read "neighbours"

Dear Willie
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
was much amused with your account
of Ogre making a of himself. – His eyes
are no better some days he cannot open them until
late in the day – this sensitivity to light is
extreme and rather increases –
A few lines from Henry

written at Albany Wednesday
said he should go to N.Y. Thursday and probably be
at home this week Wednesday — Maria

here a day or two ago and wished me to say to you
that she would come and live with you next Spring –
