Auburn Sep 24th 1851
My dear Son,

Mr Grier came to attend the state
convention at Syracuse – The two
opposing branches of the Whig parties
have united again – It is generally
thought that the “Seward Whigs” have
the advantage in the Coalition having
reserved to themselves the right to discuss
the Fugitive Slave law and have
appropriated a greater part of the State
offices – Mr. Patterson
Birth: 1799-11-11 Death: 1879-10-15
is nominated
for Comptroller – Mr Ulman
Birth: 1810-04-28 Death: 1892-11-20

to hear that your father

is yet in New
York Detroit – he has been there now
14 weeks – every week for a month we
have been expecting the trial to terminate –
The arguments commenced last week so
the end must come soon – I have this
moment received a letter saying the
trial is again retarded by the illness
of a juror – Father thinks he will come

It is possible that we may leave him though
I should be unwilling to do so – Fred
and his Cousins go out very frequently
there have been many parties here this Summer

Grandpa would not let him read
