My dear Son
I was very glad to
receive your letter last
week. Fanny
your Father
day. I hope he will
have more leisure this
week. The Winter has
nearly gone, but our
snow will remain some
time yet, there is so much
of it. it is thawing now.
Aunty
much better. both have
been out to day. Will
writes that he may
come home for a day
or two while McDougall

is here. He has not quite
give up the idea of taking
Aunt Clara's
summer but I do
not think Mr Rathbon
will give it up. Aunty
offers Will her house for
the next year, should
he come home to remain
he will probably take
that. I judge from his
letters that there is no
certainty of his coming
home at present.
Frances
to sell her house. She in-
tends shutting it up for
a season next month
and taking rooms here
for a few months. Aunty
has found some rooms in
Green St which she thinks
will please her. Frank

at present. There is con-
siderable curiosity about
the appointment of Secretary
of the Treasury which will
not be lessened by the
newspapers. I am often
asked if your Father is
going to England, of
which I know no more
than the Herald tells me.
I have always feared that

to use it. I know he
diminshed his own strength

use will make it all
right. Catherine Barrett

evening with her sister
McDougall. She is not
very well. the little
boy
Nelly is very fond of "little
brother" as she calls him
and he is always pleasured
to see her face near his
own. Nelly talks quite
plainly now, and observes
every thing that passes.
She always expects me to
read for her when she is
with me. You will
be going to City Point
about this time & may
not get my letter. Let
me hear from you when
you return. May God preserve
you my dear Son. Mother
